Help with Symantec(Norton) Ghost Server and Boot CD Creation
Have started using clonezilla on a local level..creating and image and storing on a external HDD, and moving that external to a client and ghosting it over. Works for 1 on 1 right now and I can knock out these 30 laptops in two days. After I finish with that I'll try and see if I can store images on my server and push them from there over the network. Try and get some multicasting going. Cause when summer comes along and I have to ghost 200+ laptops..one at a time inst going to cut it.

So a little background information. I work at a charter school in Michigan that hosts 420 lovely little children. We have a server that is currently setup as a Workgroup, so all our machines are independent. No Active Directory, No server roles, etc. etc. You may ask why the balls is it that way. Well I was brought on board the 2nd year the school was operating, and the company they hired basically bailed after setup up the system half way.

Well I am 22 years old, currently going to school for Network Administration (Just started last semester). I went to school for Graphic Design for 3 years after high school, and never took a single computer class. However, I've been messing with computers for about 5 years now on my own and have to say am an advanced user. I run my own business fixing computers and consoles on the side for side money, as well as working at this school.
So basically I got this job because a relative needed a tech savy person on site, and I was available so I got picked up. In the 2 years I've been working here, there has only been 1 issue that I could not fix on my own, and that was when our load balancer died, and the configurations on our server and wireless controller were both reset due to a power outage (happened at the same time). So we had to reconfigure our modem, new load balancer, wireless controller and 11 access points, etc. etc. It took a long time, but thankfully it was over Christmas break and there was no down time.*
So this is the second issue that I haven't been able to resolve on my own, and my usual go to guy hasn't gotten back to me in a few, so I figured I'd try Reddit.
How I ghost computers is this. I have a data port in my office. I plug a 8 port gigabit switch into that port. I plug the one laptop that acts as the server and runs Symantec Ghost server (looks like this http://cl.ly/NFFo). This laptop has the images that I create from the 'ghost master'. I take one laptop and install all the software and drivers and get it to look how I want, and then I create an image using Symantec Ghost Server, and store it on that ghost master laptop. Then, I plug in 7 laptops that act as clients, and I push the image I created onto those 7 laptops. And then I'm all good. I put a ghostboot CD in each client laptop, boot from cd, and start a multicast. On the master laptop, i create a session with Ghost Cast Server named 'student', and then 'accept clients'. Then I go back to the student laptops, start a multicast session on each and join the 'student' session. Then all the client laptops get assigned an IP address, I choose which partition I want to clone over, click 'SEND' and then it ghosts all 7 client laptops at a time.
Well the first set of laptops that we have are Dell Vostro 1014's. We have another set of laptops we bought at the end of last year, and they are Dell Vostro 1540's. And we JUST bought some more laptops for the middle school, and those laptops are Dell Vostro 2420's. The Ghost Boot CD that my buddy created that I use to boot into symantec ghost on the client computers works for both the 1014 and the 1540, but this ghost boot CD does not work for the 2420's.
So I went back to the server and launched 'Ghost Boot Wizard' which is where my buddy created these ghost boot CD's before. I tried to create a new CD from memory, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right..because the 2420's wont boot correctly. Instead of loading this screen (http://cl.ly/NF8y) and then getting to here where I can choose Ghostcast>Multicast (http://cl.ly/NEoI), it just sits here and doesn't go any further (http://cl.ly/NEMq).
So my balls are officially busted and I'm confused because these computers are all from the same series and should have the name NIC and LAN drivers, but in case they didn't I decided I should try and go back to create a new 'ghostboot cd' that the client laptops use to boot into symantec ghost.
So I go back to the server, and I open up Ghost Boot Wizard to create a new CD. And these are the steps that I follow.
I choose PC-DOS, and click next.
On this screen, I have been choosing CD/DVD startup boot.
On this screen, I click nothing and click next.
On this screen, I click nothing and click next.
Here I choose create iso so I can move it to a computer with a working CD drive, and check the box for 'support boot'
Here I add the file for the 2420 LAN port driver.
However, these steps create a CD that does not work..When I boot from the new CD that I created, it doesn't get stuck on that screen, but gives me a lot of 'installation failed', but eventually boots into symantec ghost. Except, instead of being able to choose 'ghostcast', the options to start a ghost session are greyed out like this (http://cl.ly/NFB4).
So what the balls. I have about 30+ ghost cd's that work for both the 1014's and the 1540's, but they don't work for the 2420's..and everything I try to create a new boot cd for ghost, it doesn't work.
SO, If any one could shed any light on this what so ever for me, I would be very grateful. So far, Reddit Tech Support has been amazing and I'm hoping you guys can come through for me again because I am in dire need and need to get these laptops ghosted really soon..
